Nathan was awarded the Bear badge this week at Cub Scout Pack Meeting. A few of his favorite achievements include: making homemade oatmeal cookies, going on a camping trip with dad, planning a family outing to Galveston's Stewart beach, and watching a BYU football game on television. Way to go Nathan!
That same evening I dusted off my seventeen-year-old cheerleading sweater vest and taught the Activity Day girls some cheers, stunts and a dance. Needless to say there was a little soreness the morning after. The pom-poms and vest are back up in the attic where they belong.
While rummaging through old high school memorabilia I came across this classic photograph taken in 1991 with my cheerleading sisters.
I am on the left with the white headband, next to my twin sister Carrie. Thanks to Mom and Dad who paid for our lovely perms!

Way to dust off the old cheer gear!! I had a wonderful perm too. Sometimes I wonder what I was thinking back then! haha
Congrats to Nathan. My Corbin is very excited to start scouts when he turns 8 in April.
Not only did they pay for those sweet perms, they also paid for those awesome cheer outfits! Wow, none of us have changed!!! ha ha ha
Congratulations Nathan! And what a blast from the past with those pictures... I wanted sooooo badly to get a perm and my mom wouldn't let me...LOL... ahh the memories :)
Wow. That one word pretty much sums it up.
I wish I could have been there. I'm so glad you still have some cheer moves left in you.
I also got a perm when I was young, but it was only to my bangs. Why did my mom do that? I'm still trying to figure that out!
First of all, way to go Nathan! Second, I love it that you can still do an awesome heel-stretch! Lastly, the picture...are you kidding me?!! Does our hair really need to be wider than our heads? In my case, two times wider?! Note to self: perms are not a good option. :-) Thanks for the fun memories!!
Look at that kick! Wow!
Congratulations Nathan on your Bear award. You are an amazing young man.
What awesome pictures! There are badges given for watching football games? I'm in! Where do I sign up?
Your flexibility never ceases to amaze me, Christine! My four beautiful girls were just as lovely then as they are now. Way to go, Nathan on earning your Bear badge. I bet you had a lot of fun with those requirements!
Ha! I had perms, too....seriously, what were we thinking??!!! And I have to say I am impressed that you are still that flexible!
First impressed that your cheeleader vest still fits and that you are still that limber!!!
You were so great, Christine! You're such a trooper and I know the girls had a wonderful time. Thank you again.
Way to go Nathan! And way to go to you! I am amazed that you can still fit in your cheer vest AND lift your leg that high!!!
Wow....you are still very flexible. I'm incredibly impressed. Congratulations Nathan!
I am not sure about 'thanking' anyone for a perm - we just didn't know better. And for the record, some of us have never been able to lift our legs that high - particularly after four children. You go girl!
And hats off to Nathan on his scouting achievement!
Wow! You are still so flexible. And I never knew you cheered!
How fun. And I love the perm. You should try it again someday--the 80s are back, right?
Maliya had a fun time at a-days and was excited to show us all of her new cheerleading moves and cheers. I am impressed you are still so flexible!
Most impressive Christine!! I had to look at that picture close up to make sure that really was your leg all the way up by your head!!! :) I think you could take today's cheerleaders to school! "Let's get a little bit rowdy!"
Christine, I can't believe you can still kick that high! And I am not posting photos of my perm from the same era :)
Way to Go Nathan! I know that you worked very hard to earn your Bear.
Thank you for making my day...those pictures are classic!
