Most every little girl at some point in her life will wish for Santa to bring her a doll. Her nurturing spirit is satisfied as she dresses, brushes the hair, feeds or sings her doll to sleep. Little girls follow the example of their mothers as they lovingly care for their dolls.

Last November, I purchased this special doll for Sarah. It was her Christmas wish to have one just like her big sister’s. I found a precious little bed and my mother made the girls beautiful hand-sewn quilts to keep their dolls warm at night. Sarah’s rapid decline prohibited me from ever giving it to her. She is safely tucked away in her memory chest. Maren occasionally takes her out to brush her hair and play with her. This doll is mine to cherish, something to hold onto until I see my Sarah again.

At first this post broke my heart as my first inclination was to think of lost opportunities. But, I'm glad that we know we'll see our angels again. We'll push them on the swings, teach them to read and watch them nurture dolls and puppies. I'm grateful for the peace the gospel brings. Patience.
I have been wondering about that lovely doll since the posts about Sarah's chest. (Partially because I wonder when Lucy will be ready for an American Girl Doll of her own.) I couldn't ever remember Sarah with the lovely doll. I love your thoughts on how girls need the opportunity to nurture and show love. So very true.
Such a tender reminder of childhood memories and the disappointment of being unable to watch Sarah play with her sweet doll. The promise Christmas celebrates is that one day all our disappointments and heartaches will be done away and compensated with great joy. Thank you for this special post.
Good Morning Christine,
You may remember me, Mrs. Nelson 6th grade @ Edgemont. I have followed your sweet family since the death of your beloved Sara. I have watched you deal with your sorrow in such a gracious, sensitive and loving way.
I have a little book that I would love to send to you I think called TEAR SOUP. It's a picture book that your entire family would enjoy. When I my son was killed, a dear friend, who had lost a baby at birth, shared it with me.
Would you kindly let me know if your are aware of this book? If not, please send your address to krisnelswils@earthlink.net. I so look forward to hearing from you.
With love and admiration,
Kristin
Sarah's doll is beautiful. I think she's aware of it and of your love for her even though she can't be with you for this time. I hope you have a merry Christmas!
