Summer Reading

If you are looking for a few good books to read with your children this summer, I highly recommend The Childhood of Famous Americans series. These chapter books chronicle the childhood years of well known American men and women. They remind us of our great heritage and give us a peek into the young lives of those who helped shape our country. These biographies are entertaining and easy to read. This week Nathan and I have enjoyed reading "Benjamin Franklin." It was fun for Nathan to learn about Ben's first inventions, the swimming paddles and kite.

Do you own a set? I've been looking, but our library's collection of those is sparse. You can however, find a biography of Miley Cyrus. Rebecca just read a biography of Helen Keller (Power Tale) and enjoyed it.

Thanks for the recommendation. Emma counts her reading time by reading the shortest paragraph in the Friend magazine from "Friends by Mail." I think she will really enjoy this book! Thanks for sharing.

I loved these books growing up! I was hooked on these and the Value Tales. I think that those books really got me hooked on reading as a kid. (The books...and my parents paid me a penny a page to read. Shameless bribery. I like to think I would have read anyway.)
