Enough is enough! This steady heat wave and drought have us wishing we lived somewhere other than Texas. These extremely hot temperatures are unbearable! We have not had significant rainfall in months. The drought is causing all sorts of problems in our state. Wildlife is struggling to survive without the rain. Snakes are so desperate for moisture they are making their way into backyards hoping to find a few drops of water from sprinkler systems. From the upstairs window, I saw this venomous copperhead slithering in our backyard flowerbed. Sorry kids, no more playing outside! We've even spotted hungry coyotes in the reserve behind our home. Cardinals hover around our bird bath each night for a quick dip and drink. The poor little birds are so thirsty.
To those of you who live in the Mountain West, I hope you are enjoying the moderate temperatures and rain. As you dust off your favorite fall sweater and put on your on cute pair of jeans, think of us still wearing our summer flip flops and shorts. Who knows when this season will end?!

I almost panicked when I saw the first sentence that your moving to Alaska. But now I understand and I'll move with you. It is so hot!
Scary about the snake, we've noticed a lot of creepy crawling creatures that are coming too close to our front door for my comfort!
At first thought you were serious. I am willing to go to Alaska to get some serious relief from this weather too. We haven't had snakes this year but it is too hot to play outside so if they are out there we don't know about it. I think our dog deters them from coming in the yard, though. I totally feel your pain on this HOT weather.
I panicked as well when I saw the title! I hope all is well with your adorable family!
You are more deserving of our hopes and prayers than those who faced hurricane Irene! Where is the media on this? We hope you will soon get some relief!
I agree. I just keep telling myself that October is coming. It has to! Isn't it amazing that people lived down here before the invention of a/c?
Don't go to Alaska....just come here! I found the perfect red brick home being built a mile away from me.... :)
I do remember the days of Houston summers. The heat and the snakes are two things I do not miss, but the friends, ward dynamics, tex mex food, friendly folk, lush green landscape are several things I do miss!
I'll move with you! The heat has gotten to be so discouraging. Our stake is having a fast this coming Sunday and praying for relief.
Baby Charlie is so darling! She looks like a Giles. Caroline has grown. I loved those photos of her. She is beautiful. Miss Maren's fabric shop is awesome. What fun it must have been getting it all set up and organized. Ya'all did a fab job. I'm impressed Nathan frosted his own birthday cake. It brings tears to my eyes to see him so grown up. It is hard to believe he is 11, but so exciting to anticipate all that the next several years will bring for him.
I think of you often! I love you.
To our FAVORITE FAMILY!
We FINALLY have power! CT and the CT coast got pounded by Miss Irene!! Most of our members homes have had home, tree damaged and still no power. Our power came on during the middle of the night. TV's blasting, fans and lights all turned on @ once. I flew out of bed to beat what I thought were robbers bursting through the door. Then I yelled out "We have power!" Poor New Hampshire and Vermont were not prepared due to the lack of reporting. They thought is would have rain only. Not so, its been just terribly sad.
I agree with your Mother about the lack of news on your terrible drought. Oh, and I HATE SNAKES! A copperhead in your yard! SHUTTER!! Hopefully, this new tropical system will bring you some relief?!?!
I'm so sorry for you guys! We are just praying for everyone at this time!
We Love You!!! We hope and pray it gets better for all of us.
I am not being comforted by all the "RECORDS" we are breaking! NO MORE!!! STOP IT NOW!!!
LOVE and HUGS! Tamara and Neil
Sorry about my epistle! Have your kids watch my news TNM Weather Reports on our blog. I think they will get a kick out of them!
