Our Cub Scout participated in his first Pinewood Derby. Nathan's original design of a U.S. Submarine won him the award, "Best Use of Imagination." The sub proved to have great speed as it raced down the track. Maren, Caroline and Christine cheered from the sidelines while Brian provided mechanical support (greasing of wheels) and watched with Nathan at the starting line. This morning Nathan discussed his vision for next year's car, one that will go even faster! Way to go Nathan!

What a small small world. My friend sent me an email yesterday about her son's pinewood derby, come to find out you guys are in the same stake (I think, she said you guys use to be in the same ward). Her name is Jamie Lester!
Way to go Nathan!!! Very inventive and imaginative.
Congratulations Nathan! Is engineering in your future? Or perhaps a little Indy 5000? Long live the Pinewood Derby!
Oh, and what a handsome Cub scout you are in your uniform!
That is one spiffy car! Your submarine was as fast as a torpedo!
Looks like fun! Congrats!
That is a great car, Nathan! I can't believe how grown up he is getting!! I do believe you could be an engineer...not a bad thing either :)

DEAR NATHAN: Once we had a Ward Party and had a Pinewood Derby. Each family received one car. It was a blast. Guess who won 1st prize. The Missionary's! They didn't have any time to do anything with their car, so they painted it blue, printed Book of Mormon on the top in gold paint, stuck the wheels on and that little car FLEW!!!!! It beat every race! They only stuck one bearing on bottom with scotch tape and greased the wheels one time. Crazy! An idea for next year.
Your car look wonderful!
Tell your Mom Hi!
Sad not to see Carrie blogging :( It's a healthy way to stay in touch.....
Thinking of you always! This I truly mean!
Congraulations Nathan on your award in the Pinewood Derby! I LOVE Pinewood Derbies, I think they are so fun! What a smart boy to think of such a unique, cool car!
Congratulations, Nathan!
Glad to hear that you're thinking about next year.
Brendan will have to take some car making lessons from you next year. What a gorgeous speed machine! Love the aerodynamic design.
Nate-Skate,
I'm glad Maxwell has such a great example to follow. He adores you and will always look up to you. Wednesday was sad day for me. I was so missing your sister, Sarah. Hugs and Kisses. Aunt Carrie
Way to go Nathan - you need to ask uncle Mark why they had to race Andrew's pinewood derby car backwards! It's pretty funny. Christine, if you ever want to borrow my scout shirt for one of these events, I would be happy to mail it to you! HA HA HA
